  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You are scheduled to have thyroid removal surgery for thyroid cancer, a benign goiter, or hyperthyroidism (like Graves’ disease).
  • You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have a past or current psychiatric condition (like depression or anxiety treated with medications).
  • You are not taking certain medicines like antidepressants, corticosteroids, or benzodiazepines.
  • You do not have serious organ failure (like heart failure, kidney failure requiring dialysis, or liver failure) or any cancer other than thyroid cancer.
