Cochlear implant for children with hearing loss in one ear

This trial tests whether a cochlear implant helps children aged 4 to 6 years who have hearing loss in only one ear (or one ear with severe loss and the other with mild loss) improve their hearing and communication. The device is surgically placed in the ear with worse hearing.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 4 and 6 years old when joining the study.
  • They must use spoken French as their main way to communicate.
  • Hearing loss must be in one ear only (severe to profound) with the other ear having normal or only mild hearing loss.
  • Both parents or guardians must sign a consent form.
  • Your child must have health insurance coverage through the French system.
  • Your child cannot have severe brain or nerve problems, or certain inner ear malformations that would make surgery unsafe.
