Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You have significant calcium buildup in the carotid artery (neck artery) that is narrowing the passage.
- If you have had stroke symptoms (like weakness or vision problems) within 6 months, the narrowing must be at least 50%. If you have had no symptoms, the narrowing must be at least 70%.
- You are able to care for yourself (score of 2 or less on a standard disability scale).
- You are already scheduled for a carotid stent and have had a standard balloon procedure that did not fully open the artery.
- You do not have other serious health problems that would make the procedure unsafe.
