Who can take part

  • You need to be eligible for a cochlear implant under standard Medicare guidelines.
  • You must be willing to follow all study rules and appointments.
  • Your inner ear (cochlea) must have normal shape and be open, as confirmed by a scan before surgery.
  • You must be able to speak English.
  • You cannot have any medical or mental health issues that would make surgery unsafe.
  • You cannot have bone growth or other problems inside the ear that would stop the electrode from being fully placed.
  • You and your family should have realistic expectations about the possible benefits, risks, and limitations of the surgery and implant.
