  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are a candidate for a first-time cochlear implant (not a replacement)
  • You have a hearing test showing your low-frequency hearing is not too poor (125–500 Hz range)
  • You do not have serious health problems that make surgery risky
  • You have no unusual inner ear structure (cochlear anomalies)
  • You speak English or Spanish
