Who can take part

  • Your child is having heart surgery that is risk category 1, 2, or 3 on the RACHS scale.
  • The surgery will be done through a cut down the middle of the chest (sternotomy).
  • Your child can be having a repeat surgery (redo).
  • Your child is not on a breathing machine or heart-helping medicines before surgery.
  • Your child does not have a bleeding disorder or severe high blood pressure in the lungs.
