Who can take part

  • Your child has a heart defect that does not cause bluish skin (called acyanotic heart disease).
  • Your child is having their first surgery to repair a hole in the heart (septal defect).
  • Your child is in stable health (classified as ASA 1 or 2 by the anesthesiologist).
  • No infection, allergy to numbing medicine, bleeding problems, or serious heart rhythm issues.
  • Your child's heart pumps well (ejection fraction above 35%).
