- You are 18 years or older.
- You are scheduled for planned (elective) heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine.
- You are at high risk for bleeding after surgery, such as having a repeat surgery, taking certain blood thinners, or having a known bleeding disorder.
- You do not have planned heart surgery without a heart-lung machine.
- You are not pregnant.
- You are not taking part in another anesthesia research study.
