Who can take part
- You are age 18 or older
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher
- You are scheduled for heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass)
- You can have blood products if needed (no refusal)
- You do not have a condition that makes you unable to use heparin, such as heparin-induced low platelets
- You do not have recent or severe bleeding risk conditions like very low platelets or certain genetic clotting/bleeding disorders
