Early vs. late stopping of antibiotics for fever in blood cancer treatment

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are receiving chemotherapy for a stem cell transplant, CAR T-cell therapy, or induction therapy for acute leukemia
  • You developed a fever (temperature at least 38°C or 100.4°F) during treatment
  • Your fever went away and stayed gone for at least 48 hours but less than 96 hours
  • You have not had a positive blood culture or other infection needing antibiotics since the fever started
  • You do not have severe mouth sores or an inflamed gut from treatment
