Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and can understand and sign a consent form.
- You are having planned heart valve or coronary artery bypass surgery with a heart-lung machine.
- You develop acute kidney injury within the first 48 hours after surgery, and your kidney injury is at least mild (stage 1, 2, or 3 based on specific blood and urine tests).
- You do not have severe chronic kidney disease (stage 4 or 5), have not had a kidney transplant, and are not on dialysis.
- You are willing to use effective birth control if you could become pregnant.
