Relaxin Agonist to Protect Kidneys During Heart Surgery

This study tests whether a drug called R2R01 can help protect your kidneys during major heart surgery. Heart surgery can sometimes damage the kidneys, and this trial is looking to see if this new medication reduces that risk.

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) heart surgery involving a heart-lung machine, such as bypass surgery, valve repair/replacement, or aorta surgery
  • You have at least two risk factors for kidney injury during surgery (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or reduced kidney function)
  • Your kidneys are working relatively normally right now, with no current kidney injury
  • You weigh between 110 and 265 pounds
  • You are not currently on dialysis, have not had a kidney transplant, and do not have advanced kidney disease (stage 4 or worse)
  • You are able to understand the study, sign consent, and commit to not becoming pregnant (if applicable) for 90 days after the study drug
