Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You had a stroke (either from a clot or a bleed) in the last 1 to 6 weeks.
  • This is your first stroke, or you had a prior stroke that did not affect your arm or hand.
  • You can lift your arm forward at least 20 degrees and move your wrist or fingers a little.
  • You do not have severe shoulder pain, stiffness, or trouble understanding instructions.

This study tests a type of physical therapy called modified constraint-induced movement therapy to help improve arm and hand function in people who have had a stroke more than six months ago.
