Who can take part

  • You have essential tremor or Parkinson's disease and are scheduled for deep brain stimulation surgery at UPMC Presbyterian.
  • If you have essential tremor, your tremor symptoms are not equally severe on both sides, and the less affected arm will be tested.
  • You do not have a history of seizures.
  • Your tremor is not so severe on both sides that you cannot perform simple motor tasks.
  • Your insurance coverage for the standard surgery will not be affected by joining this study.
