Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have cardiogenic shock from a recent heart attack, meaning your blood pressure is very low for at least 30 minutes or you need medicine to keep it up.
  • You have signs that your organs aren't getting enough blood, like confusion, low urine output, cold skin, or high blood lactate levels.
  • You do not have a neck infection or a history of neck radiation that would prevent catheter placement.
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder (INR >1.5 or low platelets) or end-stage diseases like advanced cancer, advanced HIV, or severe liver cirrhosis.
  • You do not have a heart defect present at birth or a hole between heart chambers.
