Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You have had a recent heart attack (called an acute myocardial infarction)
  • You have a hole in the wall between your heart's lower chambers (ventricular septal defect) caused by the heart attack
  • Your blood pressure and breathing are mostly stable, but you may have some fluid in your lungs (early shock stage)
  • Your kidneys are working normally or only mildly reduced
  • You are not on strong medicines to raise your blood pressure
