Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You are scheduled for open upper abdominal surgery (such as kidney removal, gallbladder removal, or liver surgery).
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5 and 35.
  • You do not have bleeding problems or take blood thinners.
  • You are not allergic to the numbing medicine bupivacaine.
  • You do not have severe liver or kidney disease, long-term pain conditions, or muscle/nerve disorders.
