Who can take part

  • You have COPD and had a sudden worsening (acute exacerbation).
  • You have been on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilator) for more than 48 hours.
  • You are showing signs that you might be ready to breathe on your own again (fulfilling weaning criteria).
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You do not have air leaks or fluid around your lungs or heart (such as pneumothorax, pleural or pericardial effusion).
  • You do not have injuries, burns, or wounds that would prevent placing the monitoring electrodes on your skin.
