Pleural pressure measurement in malignant pleural effusion

Malignant Pleural Effusions (Mpe)

Who can take part

  • You have a confirmed cancer and a pleural effusion (fluid around the lung) that is causing symptoms.
  • The fluid must be confirmed as malignant by testing, or it's a recurring fluid buildup without another clear cause, or linked to thickened pleura on a scan.
  • Your lung must be able to fully expand (no non-expandable lung on imaging).
  • You must have a life expectancy of at least one month.
  • You have not had previous surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation on the same side as the effusion.
  • You are not pregnant, have no bleeding problems, and can tolerate sedation or anesthesia.
