Who can take part

  • You have had low back or tailbone pain for more than one year that is caused by a problem with a disc in your lower spine.
  • You have already tried non-surgical treatments like physical therapy or pain management, and they did not help enough.
  • Your doctor has said you need spine surgery called interbody fusion with screws and rods.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are willing to provide written permission to be in the study.
  • You do not have other spine conditions like scoliosis, a slipped vertebra, or cancer in the spine.
  • You can have an MRI of your lower back safely.
  • Your low back pain is not caused by something other than a worn-out disc, such as cancer or inflammatory disease.
