Ear acupressure to prevent vision rebound after stopping atropine

This study tests if a simple ear acupuncture (auricular acupressure) can help reduce the sudden worsening of nearsightedness that can happen when children stop using atropine eye drops. It is for children ages 6–12 with mild to moderate nearsightedness who are currently taking atropine.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 6 and 12 years old.
  • Your child must have been diagnosed with nearsightedness (myopia).
  • The nearsightedness prescription should be between -1.00 and -4.00 diopters, with astigmatism (irregular curvature) no more than 1.50 diopters.
  • The difference in prescription between the two eyes should be no more than 1.50 diopters (called anisometropia).
  • Your child's best-corrected vision (with glasses) must be 20/30 or better in both eyes.
  • Pressure inside the eye must be less than 21 mmHg (normal range).
  • Your child must not have any other serious eye diseases (like lazy eye, glaucoma, or cataracts).
  • Your child must not have certain medical conditions that affect eye development (like Down syndrome or Marfan syndrome).
  • No eye surgery in the past 4 weeks, and none planned for the next year.
  • No participation in other drug clinical trials in the past 3 months.
  • The parent or guardian must sign a form agreeing to participation.
