Predicting cartilage damage and pain after knee injury or early arthritis

Who can take part

  • You are under 70 years old.
  • You have either: an ACL injury within the last year (with or without plans for surgery) OR early to moderate knee osteoarthritis (X-ray grades 1-3) OR you are a healthy volunteer without knee problems.
  • Your BMI is 32 or lower.
  • You can have an MRI scan (no pacemaker, no severe claustrophobia, and your thigh and calf fit the MRI coil).
  • You have not had any previous knee surgery (except the planned ACL reconstruction for the ACL surgery group).
  • You do not use cannabis, opioids, or other drugs (unless prescribed by your doctor).
