Who can take part
- Your eyeglass or contact lens prescription has been stable (changed less than -0.50 diopters per year) for the past 2 years
- You are between 18 and 40 years old
- Your best vision with glasses or contacts is at least 20/25 (a standard eye chart reading)
- If you wear soft contact lenses, stop wearing them at least 2 weeks before surgery; for hard contacts, stop at least 3 months before
- You are willing to have SMILE surgery, a type of laser eye surgery
- You have no history of eye surgery, eye injury, keratoconus (a cone-shaped cornea), uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes, autoimmune or connective tissue diseases, or a tendency to form thick scars
