Brain stimulation for swallowing problems in Parkinson's

This study is testing whether a gentle brain-stimulation technique called tDCS can help people with Parkinson's disease who have trouble swallowing. If you have Parkinson's, multiple system atrophy, or progressive supranuclear palsy and a swallowing problem, this trial may be an option.

Who can take part

  • You must have Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, or progressive supranuclear palsy.
  • You need a swallowing problem confirmed by a special X-ray test (called a VFSS).
  • Your memory and thinking must be fairly good (score above 23 on a standard thinking test).
  • You cannot have any metal implants in your body.
  • You cannot have pneumonia, a serious heart condition, or serious kidney disease.
