Comparing brain stimulation treatments for swallowing problems after stroke

This study tests three non-invasive brain stimulation methods to see if they can help improve swallowing after a stroke. If you have swallowing difficulties due to a stroke, this research might offer a new way to support your recovery.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have had a stroke (either ischemic or hemorrhagic)
  • The stroke affected one side of the brain (hemispheric)
  • You have trouble swallowing
  • You can follow instructions and cooperate
  • No skin issues or growths where electrodes would be placed
  • No brainstem stroke
  • You can sit upright and hold your head up, with or without support
  • No cancer or radiation therapy in the head or neck area
  • No other conditions that cause swallowing problems
  • No pacemaker, deep brain stimulator, or ear tube
  • No history of seizures
  • No metal implants in your body or skull
