Antimicrobial strategy for device implantation

CIED-related Infections

This trial tests a new antimicrobial approach to prevent infections in people receiving a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) or having a generator replacement. If you are scheduled for one of these procedures, this study may help reduce your risk of infection.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You need a CIED (like a pacemaker or defibrillator) implanted or your current device's generator replaced.
  • You are willing to provide written consent to participate.
  • You are not allergic to taurolidine or any of its ingredients.
  • You do not have a severely weakened immune system (for example, from chemotherapy, AIDS, or organ transplant medications).
  • You are not expected to live less than 12 months due to other serious illnesses, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
