Sleep apnea and severe asthma study
Part of Brain & nervous system, Immune system & allergy, Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This study looks at whether people with difficult-to-treat asthma might also have obstructive sleep apnea. If you're on high-dose asthma treatments, this trial could help find out if sleep problems are making your asthma worse.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor.
- You are on step 4 or step 5 of asthma treatment (high-dose inhalers or more).
- You are between 18 and 90 years old.
- You have not had a sleep study (polysomnography) before.
- You are not extremely sleepy during the day (Epworth score less than 17).
- You do not have a known sleep disorder or need extra oxygen.

This trial tests if CPAP (a mask that helps you breathe at night) can improve asthma control in people who have both severe uncontrolled asthma and sleep apnea (a condition where breathing stops and starts during sleep). You should not have been hospitalized for asthma in the last month.
This study looks at how repeated episodes of low oxygen during sleep affect the body in people with severe sleep apnea. It may help researchers understand what causes symptoms and long-term risks, which could guide better treatment decisions.
This study tests whether using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) can reduce acute COPD flare-ups in people who also have sleep apnea. It may help by improving breathing during sleep and lowering the chance of worsening lung symptoms.
This study is looking at a specific sleep-related condition (obstructive sleep apnea) in adults whose blood pressure is not high, and how their blood pressure rhythm changes over the day. If you have sleep apnea, participating could help researchers understand patterns that may affect long-term health.
This Phase 2 study looks at the cardiovascular (heart/blood vessel) effects of having both sleep apnea and COPD. It may help doctors better understand who is at risk and how to manage these breathing problems together.
This study helps doctors understand how to better adjust sleep apnea breathing machines by measuring your airway. You'll have a simple breathing test and overnight sleep study to help improve treatment.
