This study tests whether a mild electrical stimulation applied to your muscles can help prevent a common problem where exercise becomes less effective over time. You will be asked to jog or run on a treadmill and follow some simple rules about caffeine and alcohol.

Who can take part

  • You are regularly active — exercising for more than 30 minutes, at least 3 days a week, for the past year.
  • You can jog or run on a treadmill for at least one hour.
  • You are willing to avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours before each of three study visits.
  • You speak English well enough to understand the study instructions.
  • You do not have any current or past injuries that would make treadmill exercise difficult.
  • You do not have a heart or lung condition that would make exercise unsafe, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
