Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 80 years old
  • You had a decompressive craniectomy (skull bone removed to relieve brain pressure) due to trauma, stroke, or bleeding
  • This is your first skull repair surgery
  • Your skull defect is on one side only and at least 2.5 inches wide (25 cm²)
  • You have your own saved bone flap available for replacement, and it is not broken into many pieces
  • You do not have active infection, poor wound healing, diabetes, or a blood clotting disorder
