Predicting recovery in children with ADEM

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis

This study looks at children having their first episode of ADEM (a brain inflammation that can happen after an infection) to find markers that may predict recovery. If your child fits the age range and had an MRI and spinal tap within the first week of symptoms, they may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be having their first episode of ADEM (never had this before).
  • They must have had an MRI and a spinal tap (CSF test) within the first 7 days of symptoms.
  • They must be between 6 months and 18 years old.
  • They cannot have had any prior episodes of similar brain inflammation.
  • No other diagnosis explains their symptoms, like an infection in the brain or a metabolic disorder.
