Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) and expected to need it for more than 2 days
  • You have not been in the ICU for more than 7 days or on the ventilator for more than 3 days straight before joining
  • You do not have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher
  • You do not have serious leg injuries, fractures, or recent blood clots that would prevent the treatment
  • You could walk or transfer from bed to a chair (with or without help) before coming to the hospital
