Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have a tracheostomy and your main illness is stable, with plans to remove the tube.
  • You can use a one-way speaking valve for at least 4 hours the day before the tube is removed.
  • You can follow instructions and do a simple breathing test.
  • You or your legal representative agree to participate and sign a consent form.
