Who can take part

  • You are not using a breathing machine (ventilator).
  • You can tolerate deflating the balloon on your trach tube.
  • Your upper airway is open enough (measured by a quick leak test).
  • Your vital signs are stable, no organ failure, no sepsis, and any lung infection is under control.
  • Your carbon dioxide level (PaCO2) is less than 60 mmHg.
