Laser vs electric stimulation for shoulder pain after stroke

Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain

This study compares two non-invasive treatments—low-level laser therapy and electrical nerve stimulation—to see which works better for relieving moderate to severe shoulder pain in people who have had a stroke. If you have had a stroke in the last 2 weeks to 6 months and have shoulder pain, this trial may be an option for you.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You had a stroke between 2 weeks and 6 months ago
  • You have shoulder pain on your affected side that is moderate to severe (scored 40-100 on a pain scale)
  • Your thinking and memory are good (score 25 or higher on a mental exam)
  • You are able to give written consent and attend follow-up visits
