This study looks at how the hormones estrogen and testosterone affect blood flow in the brain and how your body manages energy. You may be a good fit if you are a healthy young adult (18–40) who does not smoke, has no chronic diseases, and — if you are a woman — has regular periods and is not on hormonal birth control.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 40 years old.
  • You are a healthy man or woman with no history of serious heart, lung, brain, or kidney disease.
  • Women must have regular menstrual cycles (every 21–35 days) and not be on hormonal birth control (except copper IUD).
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant in the next 3 months.
  • You are not a current smoker, and your body mass index (BMI) is under 30.
