Who can take part
- You had a brain injury (like from a heart attack, head injury, stroke, or infection) at least 3 months ago.
- You are not able to have a meaningful conversation or follow commands every day, and you cannot use objects on purpose.
- You have a diagnosis of unresponsive wakefulness syndrome or a minimally conscious state.
- You have a legal medical decision-maker (health care proxy or court-appointed guardian).
- Your brain scans show that the stimulation electrodes can be safely placed in the targeted area.
- You live in or can travel to the Greater Boston area for study visits.
