Who can take part

  • Be between 14 and 80 years old (depending on whether it’s acute or prolonged)
  • Have a diagnosis such as coma, minimally conscious state, or unresponsive arousal syndrome
  • Your unconsciousness must be from brain injury, stroke, or lack of oxygen (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy)
  • You must be right-handed
  • A family member must be able to sign the informed consent form
  • You should not have uncontrolled seizures or ongoing involuntary movements during the study
