  • Your child is under 14 years old and in the pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Your child has been on a breathing machine for more than 4 hours.
  • Your child's oxygen levels or lung stiffness meet specific criteria (determined by doctors).
  • Your child's doctor has decided a special lung opening procedure is needed.
  • Your child does not have certain heart conditions, recent lung surgery, or a large air leak around the breathing tube.
