Who can take part

  • Your child has a congenital heart defect and is scheduled for heart surgery using a heart-lung machine.
  • Your child does not have a single-ventricle heart condition.
  • Your child is not on ECMO or a ventricular assist device.
  • Your child was born at 36 weeks or later.
  • Your child does not have chronic lung disease.
  • Your child's breathing tube leak is 15% or less.
  • You as a parent or guardian must agree to the study and sign a consent form.
