Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You have a severe acute brain injury (like from trauma, stroke, or bleeding in the brain)
  • You developed a serious lung condition (ARDS) within the first 10 days in the intensive care unit
  • You are not having life-sustaining treatments withdrawn
  • Your doctors can perform ultrasound on your chest and head (no conditions that block the ultrasound waves)
  • You have invasive brain monitoring in place (like a device measuring pressure or oxygen in your brain)
