Ultrasound brain treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy

This trial tests a non-invasive procedure that uses MRI-guided ultrasound to treat a small area in the brain (the anterior nucleus of the thalamus) that is involved in seizures. It is for people with epilepsy that does not get better with medications.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 20 years old.
  • You have drug-resistant epilepsy, meaning seizures continue despite trying at least two anti-seizure medications (one must be a standard first-line drug).
  • You have 3 or more seizures per month for the last 3 months, and your medication doses have been stable during that time.
  • You can undergo an MRI scan and the ultrasound procedure, which requires lying still for 2-3 hours.
  • You are willing to keep a seizure diary and attend all study visits.
  • You do not have other serious health problems like heart disease, bleeding disorders, brain tumors, or certain implants.
