This study uses new genetic testing to find the cause of brain or spinal cord inflammation in people in Guadeloupe. If you or your child has sudden symptoms like confusion, memory loss, or weakness, this trial may help identify the underlying infection.

Who can take part

  • You must be at least 28 days old.
  • Your symptoms started suddenly and have lasted more than 24 hours.
  • You have major symptoms like confusion, memory loss, or extreme tiredness, plus at least two minor symptoms like fever, seizures, or abnormal spinal fluid.
  • If you have spinal cord inflammation, you need abnormal MRI or spinal fluid results and symptoms that got worse in less than 4 weeks.
  • You cannot have other clear causes like a brain abscess, tumor, or certain autoimmune diseases.
  • You must have health insurance and sign a consent form (or have a legal guardian sign).
