Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFPEF)

This study tests whether a special exercise program that combines different types of training (like aerobic, strength, and balance) can improve heart and muscle function, daily abilities, and quality of life in people with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). You may benefit if your heart failure is stable and you are able to exercise safely.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with a type of heart failure called HFpEF (heart with normal pumping but stiffness).
  • Your heart’s ejection fraction (a measure of pumping strength) is greater than 40%.
  • You have had a blood test showing certain markers of heart stress (BNP or NT-proBNP) above normal.
  • Your heart failure symptoms (like shortness of breath or fatigue) have been stable for the past month, and you are in class II or III (symptoms with daily activity).
  • You have not taken part in a cardiac rehab program in the last year, and you do not have any medical reason that would make exercise unsafe.
  • Your hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells) is at least 10 g/dL and your body mass index is 40 or less.
