Who can take part

  • You are between 12 and 45 years old and have sickle cell disease.
  • You have had a stroke, repeated severe chest pain (acute chest syndrome), or frequent pain crises needing hospital care.
  • You have a parent, sibling, or half-sibling who is willing to donate bone marrow and is a half-match (haploidentical).
  • You do not have a perfect match (full sibling) donor available.
  • You are generally healthy enough for a bone marrow transplant (no active infections, previous transplant, or certain cancers).
