Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 85 years old.
  • You are scheduled for open heart surgery through a cut in your chest bone.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is less than 35.
  • You are healthy enough for surgery (ASA class I, II, or III).
  • You can understand and agree to participate in the study.
  • You are able to receive any of the three pain management methods (IV pain meds, epidural, or nerve block).
