Who can take part

  • Your baby must be born at full term (at least 36 weeks of pregnancy).
  • Your baby must have a diagnosis of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (brain injury from lack of oxygen).
  • Your baby must be in stage I, II, or III of the condition based on the Sarnat system.
  • Your baby must start cooling treatment (therapeutic hypothermia) within 6 hours of birth.
  • You must give written permission for your baby to join the study.
