Unresectable Locally Recurrent Rectal Cancer

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have rectal cancer that came back in the same area (locally recurrent) and surgery cannot remove it completely (unresectable).
  • You either had no radiation to the pelvis before, or if you did, the dose was low (less than 50.4 Gy) and it ended more than 6 months ago without serious side effects.
  • The cancer has not spread far away (no metastases), or if there are a few small spots they can be treated or removed.
  • You are in good physical health (able to do daily activities) and your blood counts and liver/kidney function are within safe ranges.
  • You are willing to use birth control during the study and for 6 months after treatment (if you or your partner could become pregnant).
  • You do not have other active cancers, serious infections, heart or lung problems, or unstable medical conditions.
