Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old and live in Japan.
- You have been diagnosed with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a blood disorder that affects the bone marrow.
- You have anemia (low red blood cells) that requires treatment with red blood cell transfusions or causes symptoms like fatigue or shortness of breath.
- If you need transfusions, you must have had at least 4 red blood cell transfusions in the past 16 weeks, with at least 2 separate events spaced 7 or more days apart.
- You have not responded well to or cannot take erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs), which are medicines that help the bone marrow make red blood cells.
- You have not used certain other MDS treatments like hypomethylating agents, lenalidomide, or immunosuppressive therapy.
- Your blood counts (platelets and white blood cells) meet certain minimum levels, and your kidney and liver function are within acceptable ranges.
- You do not have heart problems like uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent heart attack, or severe heart failure.
- You are willing to use effective birth control during the study and for 60 days after the last dose.
- You have not had a stem cell or organ transplant, and you do not have active infections like HIV, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C.
