This trial compares a new antibiotic (BV100 plus low-dose polymyxin B) against a standard treatment for pneumonia caused by a hard-to-treat bacteria (Acinetobacter baumannii). If you have hospital-acquired or ventilator-associated pneumonia and standard antibiotics aren't working, this study may offer a new option.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 82 years old.
  • You have pneumonia that started in the hospital or while on a breathing machine.
  • Your pneumonia is caused by a type of bacteria that is resistant to many common antibiotics.
  • You have not received more than 48 hours of antibiotics that would work against this bacteria before starting the study drug, or you are getting worse on your current treatment.
  • You do not have serious kidney, liver, or heart problems, or certain other severe health conditions.
