This study tests whether a common sleep apnea treatment (CPAP) affects how easily you wake up and the reasons behind it. It is for people who have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and are not taking certain sleep medications or alcohol.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You have been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea (OSA) from a sleep test, with at least 10 breathing pauses per hour.
  • You are not taking any prescription sleep aids or strong painkillers (like opioids).
  • You drink less than 2 alcoholic drinks per night and are not on other central nervous system depressants.
  • You have no history of sleepwalking, sleep driving, or similar behaviors.
  • You are not pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
